Less than forty years ago, most people in the U.S. had hardly heard of acupuncture, or even Chinese herbal medicine, tai ji (Tai Chi), which are a few key therapeutic remedies in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), much less actually experienced it for themselves. However, because of an interest in natural, holistic medicine, at the beginning of the 21st century, many have not only heard of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, etc., but received its benefits.
Over the last twenty years, highly skilled practitioners with advanced degrees, and with rich clinical experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine have been arriving in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC metropolitan area. Now, they come together to train the next generation of practitioners in the U.S. to fulfill the need of many patients who yearn for a truly preventative medicine that heals at a deep level, without the use of toxic drugs or the need for surgery.
Virginia Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, VITCM, offers continuing medical education or “CME” program / professional developping activity or “PDA” program in TCM, certificate programs in scalp acupuncture and Chinese herbology, as well as plan to start a rigorous master’s degree program, giving existed and future practioners a solid foundation in acupuncture, herbology, biomedicine / Western medicine, tuina massage, nutrition, ethics, practice management–all the tools they’ll need to be responsible and effective practitioners of Chinese Medicine.
